Special character in System username

Hello experts,

Can we have @ in system username?

I'm updating user's UPN in system username field while importing the user from HR system and it is getting updated on the identity properly. However, when I'm trying to update system username (with @ in the string) from identity repository, for a user who doesn't have system username then I'm getting "Special characters not allowed !" error. It works fine if the updated system username doesn't have any special characters. I believe, the system should work in a consistent manner, irrespective of how the identity is being created or updated.

Thanks
