Change "Assignee" Displayname

Our organization is using "Preferred firstname" but we found that "assignee" displayname is showing "firstname" + "lastname" in ARS. 

Could we change this logic to "Preferred firstname" + "lastname" ?  Is this something we can do from our end?

There is no available config for this, you might have to use the Import pre-processor to achieve this use case.

Could you explain more detail about "pre-processor" ? 

We are getting a lot of complains they can't find who this approver is with legal full name...

I tried to change displayname to "Preferred firstname" + "Lastname" but Assignee displayname is still showing like "users.firstanme" + "Users.lastname" in request page.

It won't change.

Rule for assignee name 

1. if firstname is blank it will be display only last name
2. if lastname is blank it will display only firstname
3. if first name & last name is blank then it will display displayname of user.

As suggested by avinash you can change logic in trusted source to map preferred first name to first name in order to fix your isssue
