Remove special characters and characters with accents from user firstname/lastname

What would be the best option to remove special characters and characters with accents from a user firstname and lastname in Saviynt when users are imported via user import feed and also modifying existing users to have those characters removed?

Not sure if its best to use the inline pre processor or use functions?

Not sure how you would update existing users.
